Washington is the 18th largest state with an area of 71,362 square miles, and the 13th most populous state with over 7 million people. Approximately 60 percent of Washington’s residents live in the Seattle metropolitan area. The state is the biggest producer of apples, hops, pears, red raspberries, spearmint oil, and sweet cherries, and ranks high in the production of apricots, asparagus, dry edible peas, grapes, lentils, peppermint oil, and potatoes. Livestock and livestock products make important contributions to total farm revenue, and the commercial fishing of salmon, halibut, and bottom-fish makes a significant contribution to the state’s economy. The largest cities are Seatlle, Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver and Bellevue. The 2014 total gross state product for Washington was $425.017 billion, placing it 14th in the nation. The per capita GDP in 2009 was $52,403, 10th in the nation.

The nature of our work falls into three primary roles: Service – Our expertise is recognized as a valuable resource. Services asked for and paid for by industry include quality inspections, certification, laboratory testing and produce grading. Regulatory – We offer guidance, workshops and technical assistance to support education for better compliance. Regulatory work includes registration, licensing, permits, inspection, investigation and compliance support. Advocacy – We work to raise the profile of Washington’s agricultural products and industry. Through policy, planning, partnerships, outreach and promotion, we can be a voice, catalyst and facilitator for a viable industry.

Impact Washington: Manufacturing is a vital arm of Washington’s economy, and it’s our mission to support and energize our local industry. The Made in Washington program is a free service to the community that certifies, promotes, and connects Washington State manufacturers.  MEP is a public-private partnership with Centers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico dedicated to serving small and medium-sized manufacturers. Last year, MEP Centers interacted with 25,445 manufacturers, leading to $9.3 billion in sales, $1.4 billion in cost savings, $3.5 billion in new client investments, and helped create and retain more than 86,602 jobs.
